This project focuses on the idea of protection and the exploration of bubble wrap as a material.
By doing this I created two clothing articles: A Puffer jacket and a Vest.

For the bubble wrap jacket, I explored more the idea of it being made for protecting from bumpind into things.

On the other hand, for the vest I experimented with pattern making through freehand machine embroidery into the plastic bubble wrap and a thinner foam. I decided to continue to work with this material, because of its texture, its idea of being usually used for packaging and not clothes, and finally for a future idea of recycling this type of plastic, which is heavily used for example in the factories.
The patterns I did are inspired by Celtic Knots, since they symbolise protection. Its compact design hints at an unbreakable barrier, with a single interwoven thread suggesting endless protection. The endlessness of the design might have also symbolises rebirth and eternity, hinting at the never-ending cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth. Consequently, this idea reminds me of embroidery, a single thread making a single big pattern.

These experiments on the vest also have the future purpose to  create a more ‘everyday use’ vest, by being thinner and more wearable than the puffer jacket.
